- MARK ELMAN
The arrival of their long awaited multi-million dollar Heidelberg press was met with significant challenges after attempts to place and calibrate the 100,000 lb high speed press on its structural foundation. With tolerances of .003 inches, it was discovered that the 3’ thick structural slab had too much movement to meet the ridged German requirements.
Working with Soils and Structural consultants, McLeay Building Company developed plans for a deep foundation system that would meet the tight structural tolerances.
The work would require the removal of the existing structural slab, excavation for a reinforced pier cap and the installation of helical piles to bearing strata. This work was followed by placement of 110 cubic yards of high strength concrete. AND, keep the Press Operation running. All work was completed in one week and the 100,000 lb press installed in the following week.
